Who is it for?
Maybe ADHD is something you already understand, but Autism feels newer - or you’re beginning to recognise how the two might be showing up together.
This group is designed for people who are newer to understanding Autism and ADHD, with a particular focus on Autism and how autistic and ADHD traits can overlap, contradict and affect each person differently.
Together, you’ll have space to better understand what you’re experiencing, alongside others exploring similar questions.
What you get out of it
Across four weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Better understand how Autism and ADHD can interact and show up differently from person to person
Recognise behaviours and responses that may previously have felt confusing or frustrating
Understand the role of masking, sensory sensitivity, overload, shutdowns and burnout
Better recognise what can contribute to stress and overload in your everyday life
Explore boundaries, self-care and ways to better support yourself
Recognise the strengths that can come with autistic and ADHD ways of thinking
Learn alongside a small group of people exploring similar experiences
Week by Week
Week 3 - When your system gets overloaded
Explore some of the challenges of co-occurring Autism and ADHD, including sensory sensitivity, intolerance of uncertainty, shutdowns and meltdowns, and ADHD and autistic burnout. The session will also touch on hormonal interactions for women.
Week 1 - Understanding masking
Explore the history and effects of masking in Autism and ADHD - what masking can look like, why it happens, and the impact it can have over time.
Week 4 - Moving towards thriving
Start identifying what helps you move from simply coping towards thriving. Explore environmental stressors, relationships, sensitivities and cognitive load, alongside self-care and understanding what healthy boundaries can look like for you.
Week 2 - When Autism and ADHD meet
Look at the nuances of experiencing Autism and ADHD together: where traits can overlap, where they can contradict one another, and why the combination can look very different from person to person.
The programme will also introduce dialectical thinking - the ability to hold two seemingly opposing ideas at once, and explore the strengths that can come with autistic and ADHD abilities.
What to expect in the ‘room’
A deliberately small group - numbers are capped at 12, helping create a space where trust and meaningful discussion can develop.
Learn and discuss as you go. Rory will guide each session using their slide deck, with opportunities for questions and discussion throughout. There are no breakout rooms or separate small-group activities.
Participate in a way that works for you. Cameras are optional and there’s no pressure to speak or share if you’d prefer to listen only.
Resources to take away. You’ll receive Rory’s full slide deck and notes, with additional handouts and resources available where useful.
Meet the Facilitator
Rory McCarthy
Coach: ICF Coach; ADD Coaching Academy.
Rory is Beehyve’s Coaching Team Lead, an ICF certified coach and has been coaching neurodivergent people for five years. They also bring lived experience of both ADHD and Autism, alongside years spent researching and better understanding their own neurology.
Before retraining as a coach, Rory worked across a wonderfully varied mix of worlds, from software engineering and corporate environments to game development, film and television, hospitality and writing. It’s experience they now draw on when working with people whose lives, brains and circumstances don’t necessarily fit neatly into one box.
Rory has been facilitating group programmes for four years and is passionate about helping people understand themselves, recognise their strengths and find ways to move towards flourishing rather than simply surviving.
